I think the D might be my desert island amplifier - assuming that desert island gets 120 volts at 60 cycles, of course. In the standard configuration, the break up comes early on the dial. Adding a NFB loop can tame it a bit and add a lot of versatility. But for me, where's the fun in that? From adding cascading gain stages (a la the Marshall 2203) to building it as a Tweedle Dee, all kinds of fun modifications are possible on this amplifier. In just about any scenario, the overdrive tone is some of the purest out there. However, the D is not just a one trick pony. The clean tones are absolutely sparkling at low volumes, and it pairs beautifully with a Tele or a Strat. Adding a Celestion AlNiCo Blue really helps fill out the midrange if you're looking for a slight British flavor. The D is perfect for the home or studio. But at 18 watts, it is also loud enough for a gig- especially with a matching extension cabinet!
